I- A true entrepreneur The Palgrave selftest results
Here are my results:
1°) Need for achievement: 8/12
2°) Need for autonomy/independance: 2/6
3°) Creative tendency: 10/12
4°) Moderate/calculated risk taking: 8/12
5°) Drive and determination: 8/12
There are some results that are quite true in this test: If we consider the creativity section and the risk taking section, I would say that I kind of recognize myself since I am very curious and I like using my imagination and my ideas in my daily life. I like to be different from others in my clothes or my activities; I am persuaded that originality is very important to stand out. I am not a sheep, I do not like homogeneity. Besides, I always compare pros and cons before taking a decision, it is the way I do. I often think during long time before taking a decision in order to be sure that it is the best one for me.
What is more, I totally agree with the section about achievement and determination. People always tell me that I am very self-confident and forward looking and I m sure that these are qualities an entrepreneur must have. I like thinking that I can make my own luke, I just need to be at the right place at the right time ;) .
However, I completely disagree with the need for autonomy section since I know that I need to behave as I want, I dislike rules and orders and in some cases I would rather work alone than in team. I like being alone sometimes. I need to feel free of my behavior. I do not say that it is something positive but I am who I am, however sometimes I wish I was not so stubborn.
Talent Management
What is a good entrepreneur? What qualities must he have?
These are very important questions and I definitely believe that there is not just one right answer. I will give the example of two people: Michael H. and Jay Arrington who, after starting a couple of businesses that left the two in heavy financial debt, founded Harper Arrington in late 2004 with just $980 . Today Harper Arrington is a flourishing business venture that has achieved over $1.7 Million in sales.
In my opinion, both of them are two living examples that anyone with a vision and determination can become successful entrepreneur. It is very important to believe in yourself because if you do not believe that you can, nobody will. Fot me it is the first step to success. What is more, a good entrepreneur has to be reactive and optimistic but never give up.
On the other hand, I consider taht the biggest mistake that an entrepreneur could make, is to think that he can do everything alone, that he needs nobody. I think that too much egocentrism and pride could be bad drivers for an entrepreneur. Humility is better.
Research
I have chosen one website that could be really interesting for someone who wants to start his own business: http://www.creersaboite.fr: this website seems to be the essential for any entrepreneur, even if it has firstly been created for people living in Ile de France. It gives all the tools to help you to start your business. It explains in details how to proceed. For instance it gives steps to follow: to have the idea and then to define the personnal project, the market study, the financial forecats... What is more, it gives many useful links to search information such as how to get information on newspapers, on internet, on tv...Where to get financial fundings, how to manage the future firm...
This is a complete website that is worth visiting by any entrepreneur because he will find answers for all his questions.
Inside this website, I found another one which ishttp://www.inpi.fr: it explains how to protect your brand once you start your business. Consequently, I think that this has to be the first step to undertake in order to be sure that your business will not be stolen and will last at least one day. Picture search
In Bing, I chose this picture which shows a winner. I consider that an entrepreneur must have charisma and has to be able to draw a crowd since as I said before, I think that no one can make it alone. The entrepreneur has to convince not only investors but also his potential customers to buy his product. What is more, he needs to believe in his potential and to be ambitious enough in order to reach the top level.
I also chose this picture because I consider that nowadays with all Earth's problems such as global warming, poverty, war... the current entrepreneur must be someone who stands back and think global instead of thinking just about himself. Our planet needs people who will behave positively for its sake and who are willing to change things in order to "heal the world and to make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race" as said Michael Jackson in one of his song.
My own entrepreneur picture
Here is a picture I took in Marrakech famous place: Jamâa El Fna. At the beginning it was an empty space where some street sellers tried to run their little business. By the time, urbanism brought with it many new poor man who settled and created their own business such as restaurants (we can see restaurant's smoke in the picture), started playing their hobbie (theatre), told stories and even sold water.
The place was not equipped with water nor electricity. So each one, found his own way to have electricity (electric generator) and water ( But from where??).
Theredore, I think that these people have started from nothing and are now trading on a world heritage approved by The UNESCO. They have shown to the world, that even without money ,we can start a business and thrive. People just have to dare !!
Trend
REAL TIME REVIEWS is the trend I picked because it is the one which suits better my business proposal. This trend considers that the service or the product which will be launched in 2010, will be considered in mass and in real time.
Considering the business I run , I am looking to expand my activies in several continents and especially North Africa and Noth America. Nowadays, everyone has the right to study and above all to succeed at school, that is why it is really important to spread my activity all over the world.
II- Next practice not best practice
Best practice
Best practice is a technique, a procedure, an activity that is considered as efficient since it enables to complete a task and then to get the better outcomes with the minimum efforts.
Best practice can be applied to many domains. Therefore, it fits well my business proposal which is tutoring students who have difficulties at school. In my business, it could be interesting to make everything easy for the student. For instance he will be even more efficient if do not move from his/her home to study, that implies that we would start "homeclasses" for some students who are tired, handicaped, sick, or non-motorized. We could also foresee nap times for teacher to have them really performant while teaching. Concerning communication, we would prioritize twitter, facebook and emails rather than letters or posters since it is more efficient to reach young people.
Naked pizza: The goal of this business is to sell healthier pizza since they are organic. They tend to be "eco-easy" and would aim to gain the population faithfullness thanks to their original product.
III- Competencies Management Five competencies that are essential for my business
1°) Communication skills: It is compulsory to be able to communicate on our business in order to make it know by everyone. We have to reach an audience aged from 7 to 77 that is why we need to have good communication about our business which will be understood by the whole population.
2°) Inter-personal relations: Our business is based on the relationship with the other. This skill is obvious for our company, since we have to create a good relationship with our clients in order to make our service efficient. What is more, good relationships lead to client satisfaction and then positive criticism and good publicity.
3°) Analytical skills: It is important to be analytical and synthetic in order to make our students become more efficient in examinations.
4°) Organizing skills: We have to be organized in order to be able to answer to each person's need. More than 10,000 students have integrated our school which means mora than 10,000 different expectations. Consequently it is an indispensable competency.
5°) Safety orientation: We teach people and learn them how to work. We also trasmit our knowledge in order to make them autonomous. Our aim is to give them the opportunity to succeed and to have a better life thanks to study. This is why we have to stimulate their act and to make them learn and succeed withous any risk to fail.
IV- The blue ocean strategy NetJet: is a company that had the original idea to make available for people who do not have enough money to travel by jet. Its cheaper and above all possible.
Body Shop: Before, the products of this company were considered as being unhealthu because of chemical products and not ethical. The firm had then the idea to innovate with eco-friendly product and more natural.
Starbucks: This company created the Coffee Culture: for a customer, going to starbucks has become an experience which arouses in him feelings, he can drink coffee and at the same time relax in a couch as if he were sitting at home.
eBay: This website was the very first to lauch selling through internet with an auction system. Therefore, everybody won: customers could buy at the price they wanted and for the company, costs are dramatically reduced since it did not sell produtcs it made.
Nintendo Wii: Is a new kind of game console where the person can move while playing. This new way of playing video games has quickly find many addicts among youg but also older people.
Ikea: This company has enabled people to test their product themselves. It sells cheap products, in "kit" and gives to the customer to feel more involved with the company when he makes his own choice.
Fedex: FedEx came with a value that was not predominant before: the importance of the customer's satisfaction. It tries always to answer to its clients' expectations and agive a huge importance to deliver all the packages it has unlike its competitors who used to lose some of them. The company gives then a reliable service to the customer who will pay a little bit more to have the guarantee that his products arrives.
CNN: Thanks to CNN, anyone could see the news at any hour of the day. Indeed the company created the concept of 24/24 information which enables to give news in real time. As a consequence, this genius idea made the firm become a major competitor for the others channels who tried to copy it.
